The Community College of Göttingen (“Volkshochschule Göttingen”) is an institution of adult education, supported by the state of Lower Saxony and the city of Göttingen. In addition to open trainings for all citizens of the region the focus of the education is the qualification and career guidance for unemployed people, young people with social handicaps, migrants, and especially for women.
The main fields of activity are as follows: - culture and art - health education - language training - second-chance education - vocational training.
Within the region Göttingen, migrants from Russia and Kazakhstan as well as from the Balkan states found refuge and a second home. Their children are growing up in integrated school classes and do tend to have specific needs in emotional and educational matters. For young adults concepts like "Betzavta" are used for education in democracy, tolerance and understanding of human rights, whereas for social skills the training "Fit for Life" has proven to be successful. Many of these trainings are conceived with and supported by the local chamber of commerce, while co-operations with local companies like Sartorius AG, Novelis AG among others ensure the industrial and commercial background of these projects.
Role in the partnership: Volkshochschule Göttingen will contribute to all phases of the project and be in charge of setting up and managing the project website and blog. They will later on coordinate the drafting of future international joint projects.
